The<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov\/women\/victims.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Illinois Attorney General\u2019s Office<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> advises that these orders can offer a variety of protections depending on the circumstances involved, which often include the following: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prohibits abuser from making threats or committing acts of violence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bars them from your home, job, or school;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prevents them from being around you or your children if under the influence of alcohol or drugs;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides you with temporary custody and support for minor children;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compels the abuser to enter counseling or treatment programs;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Requires any guns or weapons to be turned over to law enforcement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<h6>In the event the abuser violates the protective order, they can be subject to serious penalties.
