Seeking to Maintain Children’s Lifestyle, Wife Seeks $1 Million in Monthly Child Support
Any divorce settlement process has the potential to be contentious. However, when millions, or even billions, of dollars are at stake, then the process can get very combative and drag on for months and even years.
Heated Battle Rages On
Last month we discussed the ongoing divorce
and child support battle between Chicago billionaire hedge fund owner Kenneth Griffin and his wife, Anne Dias Griffin. As the battle drags on, new details have emerged in regards to the settlement proceedings as well as into the couple’s lifestyle. According to recent reports, the estranged couple continues to fight over how much Ms. Dias Griffin needs in monthly child support
According to the latest reports, Ms. Dias Griffin has asked a judge for $1 million a month to help support her children. Ms. Dias Griffin reportedly claims that that is how much she needs to support her children each month. The couple has three children who are all younger than 10-years old. She also employs four nannies to help care for the children. However, according to court documents, Mr. Griffin claims that his wife does not need that much money and that she is only asking for that amount so she can continue to live her extravagant lifestyle. Among the items that Ms. Dias Griffin has listed in her monthly child support budget include:
- $14,000 for meals/groceries
- $300,000 for travel in private jet
- $160,000 for renting vacation lodging
- $60,000 for staff and office space
While Mr. Griffin contends that these expenses are “exorbitant,” Ms. Dias Griffin claims she is simply asking for what it would take to maintain her children’s previous lifestyle. According to Illinois state law, children of divorce are entitled to maintain the same lifestyle they enjoyed when their parents were together as when they are divorced.
Tough Battle To Continue
No doubt this battle will continue as both parties keep fighting for as much money as they can. While most divorces do not deal with this kind of money, every divorce settlement is important. Additionally, how much money a custodial parent receives in monthly child support payments can make a huge difference in life after divorce.
