ASSOCIATE

Stephanie Powers is an Associate Attorney with the Women’s Divorce & Family Law Group by Haid and Teich, LLP (“WDFLG”). Ms. Powers prides herself in her ability to use her voice to fight for others in court with diligence and empathy. Ms. Powers works tirelessly to ensure that her clients feel heard, prioritizes her clients’ concerns, and takes time to explain each and every step of the litigation process to them. Ms. Powers handles all aspects of family law, including the dissolution of marriage, allocation of parental responsibilities, parenting time, maintenance (f/k/a alimony), relocation, child support, orders of protection, and post-decree matters.

Prior to joining WDFLG, Ms. Powers practiced family law at another Chicago-based law firm, where she successfully litigated numerous cases, settled highly contested matters, and conducted various evidentiary and summary hearings.

Before her admission to the Illinois bar, Ms. Powers had the privilege of serving as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Judge Mark Lopez in the Domestic Relations Division of Cook County, Illinois. Additionally, Ms. Powers spent numerous semesters clerking for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and representing domestic violence survivors in court through the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic as an Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 Student Attorney.

Ms. Powers considers herself to be a zealous advocate for her clients throughout each step of the litigation process. Ms. Powers is passionate about helping others navigate some of the most difficult times in their lives. Ms. Powers is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Italian.

EDUCATION

Academic Achievements

Ms. Powers received her J. D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she was admitted with a merit-based scholarship for her academic achievements. During law school, Ms. Powers was selected to represent Chicago-Kent as a member of the nationally-ranked Trial Advocacy Program at numerous national competitions. Ms. Powers graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Law, and Justice.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Ms. Powers is passionate about giving back to her community. She volunteered over 1,000 hours of community service with various organizations such as Ascend Justice (f/k/a Domestic Violence Legal Clinic), Omni Youth Services, Habitat for Humanity, Lurie Children’s Hospital, and more.

Ms. Powers also coaches Chicago-Kent College of Law’s Trial Advocacy Program.
